School PE and School Sport Funding
What is PE & School Sport Funding?
In September 2013 the Government launched the PE and Sport Funding, which was initially for a two-year period but has now been extended. The aim of this money is to fund improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of pupils aged over 5 and under 11 years of age, so that the pupils develop healthy lifestyles. We have allocated our PE and Sports Funding to engage pupils at lunchtime, provide opportunities for pupils to participate in competitive sports within the local community, support physical activity for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds, all whilst continuing to support staff to become more confident and skilled in teaching PE within school.
The vision for Primary PE and Sport Funding is that ALL pupils leave primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in a physical activity and sport. (Association of Physical Education & Youth Sport Trust).
‘Physical education provides opportunities for pupils to be creative, competitive and to face up to different challenges as individuals and in groups and in teams. It promotes positive attitudes towards an active and healthy lifestyle’. The school ensures that every child is given an opportunity to experience a wide range of sporting and physical activities; which they can then build on in later life. With an increase in over 750,000 young people playing a sport regularly since London 2012, it is something that the Federation of Liss Infant and Junior Schools hopes to promote amongst its pupils.
Federation Ethos for Sport
The federation is committed to offer a minimum of 2 hours high quality, well planned PE and Sports every week; delivered by a combination of school staff and visiting professional sports coaches. The delivery of lessons is within the PE framework but may also be linked to cross curricular activities.
Throughout the year pupils participate in athletics, dance, games (including ball skills) and gymnastics. Opportunities are also given for Year 4 pupils to receive swimming coaching at the local sports Centre, where pupils are grouped according to their swimming ability and receive instruction from professional swim coaches. Pupils in Year 6 also take part in Bikeability during the Autumn Term, we encourage all pupils to; walk, scoot or bike to school this ensures they do so safely.
In the summer term we hold our sports day, in which the participation of every child is encouraged.
We are also a member of the Bohunt School Sports Partnership and take part in regular fixtures, festivals and benefit from the support of the Sports Leaders. Bohunt also support our Year 5 pupils in becoming playground leaders – giving them the skills and expertise to run activities during playtimes.
During Year 6, pupils get the opportunity to visit Calshot and take part in outdoor adventurous activities, including; skiing, orienteering, rock climbing, obstacle course and team building challenges.
The federation is constantly reviewing and improving our extra-curricular activities, in order to develop pupils’ physical competence and confidence, whilst encouraging the children to find enjoyment and fun in physical activity. In recent years the after-school provision has included dance, football, running, Change 4 Life, hockey, cricket, karate and street dance
We have used the Sport Funding to develop and improve provision in the following areas:

- To run sports activities with other schools
